Clipper Top Link – No-Wrench Locking Top Link
No jam nuts. No crescent wrench riding shotgun in the cab. Just squeeze the clip, slide the barrel, let go. This is the top link Massey Ferguson got right decades ago – same locking design, duplicated exactly by Sparex, at a fraction of what a dealer would want for the OEM part.
I get asked about this one more than almost anything else in my videos, so I figured it was time to put it up on the site.
Every top link has the same annoying problem: the barrel threads in and out to adjust length, and something has to keep it from backing off once you’ve got it set – because tractor vibration will walk a loose top link out over time, and that’s how you end up with a three-point hitch that clanks, or worse, comes apart on you in the field. The usual fix is a pair of jam nuts you crank down against each other with a big wrench every single time you swap implements. It works, but it’s a hassle, and half the guys I know just don’t bother – which is its own problem.
Massey Ferguson figured out a better way years ago, and it’s dead simple: instead of jam nuts, there’s a spring-loaded clip that drops down over a squared section of the link. Push it down, it locks the barrel in place – no tools, no threads to back off, nothing to forget. Pull it up, adjust your length, push it back down. That’s it.
This is Sparex’s exact duplicate of that Massey design – same locking clip (Sparex calls it the ‘Top Link Locking Clip,’ part S.439), same OEM-pattern dimensions, same fit. If you’ve priced an original Massey Ferguson top link through a dealer, you know that can get expensive fast. This one does the same job for a whole lot less.
Comes in the sizes below to match Category 1 and Category 2 hitches at three different center lengths, so odds are good there’s one here that bolts straight onto what you’re running.
